Are you creative? Do you wish you could be more creative? Do you feel your creativity is blocked?
Try Morning Pages as suggested by the author, Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way. Morning Pages are "three pages of longhand writing, strictly stream of consciousness." (You'll need a notebook for your thoughts - just for private time in the AM.
Part of my Morning Pages today said:
"Wedding today---hope it doesn't rain.
Iron the shirt. Pace yourself.
Get ready and on and on." Your pages are private and only for you to read.
Write whatever is on your mind, however, trivial it seems to be.
By writing stream of consciousness thoughts, you are clearing your head of all the daily details and trivia we think about.
Julia says, " There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages."
I've written recipes, thoughts, recalled special moments.....lists, and plans for what I'd like to do in the future. Sometimes, I've diagrammed my plans...
This was my dinner tonight. Can you guess the vegetables I added to this dish?
I was determined to have as many as would fit in the pot.
I started with spiraled beets courtesy of Whole Foods. I put them in the pot with a 1/4 cup of water on low heat. Then I added cauliflower rice, a shallot ( left over from bone broth), baby bok choy, onions and celery .Did you guess that yellow item on the right is one half of a baked sweet potato. You would be right. I sprinkled the dish with lemon juice and some apple cider vinegar. The cauliflower absorbed some of the liquid and lessened the sharpness of the vinegar. Of course, salt and pepper were added.
Why did I eat so many vegetables? I've been reading several books that recommend high amounts for your health. Dr...
What are you doing to cool off this weekend? Are you going to the beach or the pool?
My plan is to eat cool foods to help me cool off. Lately, I've been buying a lot of watermelon. Of course, it's delicious and refreshing by the slice. But I wanted something a little different.
I chopped up some watermelon, put it in the blender with a squeeze of lime juice and some mint leaves. Then I poured the mixture into some popsicle forms. Voila, after a few hours, I had popsicles. My six year old grandchild said, "These are awesome, Nana!"
You could also make Watermelon Soup the same way. Add some zucchini noodles to the top or shredded carrots for a decoration. The sky is the limit to what you can do!
Are you feeling stressed? Need a break or some time to think?
Try Journaling to nurture yourself. As a Health Coach, I can guide you through the various interpretations of what journaling is, different styles of journaling, the benefits and advantages of journaling daily. I've been trying it myself and it's very interesting. Journaling allows me to empty my mind of "daily trivia" so I have space to be open to creativity. I find myself relaxing
Julia Cameron in her book, The Artist's Way, suggests we write every day as soon as we wake up. Take a notebook and write three pages of whatever comes into your head even if it's trivial. Don't use the computer to do your writing as the activity should be a physical practice.
Julia was one of the speakers when I studied to be a Health Coach at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. She called this writing Morning Pages and described it as a form of...
